Last Sunday I turned 32. I don't mind birthdays or people knowing my age. In fact, I like parties and celebrations. But I do notice that I become more introspective on or around these big days. Sometimes life takes a different direction than we think it might - not a bad one, just different. We can get so used to our roles in life that we forget the person. So this birthday I decided to get reacquainted with myself. Since my goal in this blog is to let you get to know me - I'll share what I remembered.
- I was born in Tyler, TX, Sept. 7, 1976
- Raised in KS/MO
- I am the daughter of Southern Baptist preacher who leans pretty far to the left (me not dad).
- Youngest of three girls.
- Mother of two.
- Married seven years.
- I deeply love the sun.
- And really hate the cold.
- I think Atlanta is a beautiful city and I really enjoyed living there.
- I love water (canoing, swimming, rafting or just being near it).
- I am thankful to be a thrill-seeker (skydiving, hang-gliding, etc).
- I spent a month camping through Egypt when I was 20.
- I lived in Edinburgh, Scotland for a year.
- I interned for a semester in Madrid and had 10 male roommates from around the world (that was scary).
- I don't love living in Colorado but I'm getting used to it (those "Native" stickers don't impress me much).
- I don't like going downhill fast whether on skies or on a mountain bike.
- Someday I would like to master river kayaking.
- I am absolutely, positively, terrified of mountain lions.
- I met my husband while working on a dude ranch.
- I plan to buy myself a motorcycle when my youngest child graduates from high school.
- I did my MBA concentration in Entrepreneurship - I love business plans (no really, I do)!
- I really like Barry Manilow.
- If I could be someone else it would likely be Andrea Mitchell or Anderson Cooper.
- I live with my family of four in roughly 1,000 square feet (someday we'll finish that upstairs).
- I believe in buying down, not moving up.
- I believe siblings should share bedrooms. I'm grateful I did.
- I believe televisions and computers have no place in bedrooms.
- I think the words "Live, Work, Play" should be reserved for reurbanization projects. It pisses me off to see them on a sign, in the middle of a field, marking the future of yet another sprawling suburb.
- I believe these things make me a great, though unusual REALTOR.
- I believe being green is a stewardship issue. Besides, we should all hug a tree every now and then.
- I believe we have the responsibility and privilege to care for the poor regardless of the reason they are poor.
- Just realizing there are more than 32 things to know about me...who knew?
Now, tell me a thing or 32 about you...
